From Every Family’s Got One Founder — Barbara Herel
Did you become a parent after 40? I did and wrote an essay about it for a new book anthology called Tick-Tock: Becoming a Parent after 40.
I’m happy to be included with incredible writers who offer-up their personal experiences of being or having an older parent. Contributors include New York Times best-selling author Elizabeth Acevedo, award-winning author Adam Berlin, writer/editor Salma Abdelnour Gilman, and more.
We all need a cheering section
No matter what we’re trying to accomplish, it’s a lot less painful if we have people rooting for us. And if it wasn’t for these two individuals, I would have self-talked my way right out of this writing opportunity.
Many thanks to my beautiful friend and fellow creative person, Shamina Rao, for telling me about the call to pitch. It feels good to have someone think of you, especially someone you trust and admire; it definitely helped me take that leap of faith.
And honestly…
I don’t think I would have actually submitted my piece after the many (many) rewrites if it wasn’t for the encouragement of prolific book author of The Lilac House, The Bluebell Girls, and The Lily Garden, and all-around lovely person Barbara Solomon Josselsohn.
Barbara is an Every Family’s Got One storyteller. She charmed our audience with her family story about her son’s fiercely competitive nature that left her wondering – is this kid actually mine? Lol
So Barbara, thank you for answering my slew of questions and providing me with your insights and much needed positivity when I felt my confidence ebbing.
